What Was The Highlight Or Most Memorable Moment Of Your Tour
Selecting the highlight of the tour is a very difficult question to answer. There were many. Perhaps the most outstanding was the walk up to the church on the mountain from Kasbegi. Or perhaps Vardzia? Or Baku? Or maybe the optional trip to Batumi. In fact the whole holiday was a highlight.
Tour Leader Name
How Was Your Explore Tour Leader
Nick was an outstanding tour leader - one of the best we have ever had. He was always pleasant, and knew Georgia and Azerbaijan inside out. I don't think there was any question he couldn't answer. Armenie was very knowledgable about Armenia, and had boundless energy. Did you know that Armenian children learn chess as part of their curriculum?
What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour
Don't attempt to have an evening meal in the hotel in Yerevan. We are still waiting for ours! Make the most of the 9 hour stopover in Vienna on the way out. It's a lovely city. If you like a drink, Armenia is good for brandy, Georgia is excellent for wine, while Azerbaijan, despite being a Moslem country, makes surprisingly good wine. Try and seek out the German beer brewery in Baku.
Do You Have Anything Else To Add
The tour has many included meals, all of which were excellent. The restaurants chosen by Explore provided really good plentiful food, with vegetarians also well catered for. This tour is a good and varied tour, with a reasonable mix of sightseeing and walking.

What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?
Do some historical research before travelling.
We went in the height of summer and it was baking hot in Yerevan and Tblisi, but the mountains of Georgia were still chilly. I've been on trips in the past where homestay options were unpleasant and grim, but these were a real treat. One of the highlights has to be trying to converse with the matriarch at one of the homestays, using the group's very limited knowledge of Russian. The warmth and hospitality was fantastic, although the mountains of food and gallons of home-made wine were rather challenging!
Be careful, when entering Azerbaijan, that you don't have anything that is obviously Armenian with you. When we crossed the border the guards were looking for Lonely Planet books and they confiscated Armenian souveniers. (GFA -8th January 2009)
