Sailing from Reykjavik, your journey begins on the rugged east coast of Greenland, where you'll experience Tunumiit culture in Tasiilaq and Kuummiut. From here we sail southwards into Skjoldungen Fjord's perfect stillness, navigate glacier-lined Prins Kristiansund and venture into the green valleys of Southern Greenland before continuing north to Greenland's colourful capital, Nuuk. We pass Kangaamiut, steeped in Greenlandic tradition and we'll end with the soaring cliffs and glaciers of Eternity Fjord, before disembarking in Kagerlussuaq. Arrive in Reykjavik (REK) and make your own way to the embarkation point. Once aboard and after our important safety briefings, we set sail towards Eastern Greenland.
The Denmark Strait, a narrow passage between Iceland and Greenland, teems with rich marine life. Join your Expedition Team on the outer decks to watch for wildlife. Nearing Greenland, the team shares insights on ecology, geology, and wildlife, as well as briefings to prepare for Zodiac operations, landings and polar bear safety in the wilderness of Greenland.
Tasiilaq is East Greenland's largest settlement, sitting on rugged Ammassalik Island. Isolated from European contact until its founding as a trading post in 1894, it preserves the unique culture of the Tunumiit people. Once home to Greenland's last shamans, Tasiilaq is the origin of the tupilak, a feared magical creature - now a celebrated art form. Visitors can meet sled dogs (with the owners\ permission), experience drum dancing, hike tundra meadows and visit the famous Stunk Artist's Workshop.
During the morning, we approach Ikateq, also known as Bluie Two East - a haunting remnant of the American military presence on Greenland during the Second World War. Marvel at the remains of this vital airbase, untouched since it was abandoned in 1947. In the afternoon we reposition to Kuummiit - a small village deep in the calm waters of Ammassalik Fjord. Here we will have a chance to connect with the friendly locals and experience East Greenlandic culture in one of country's most beautiful and welcoming villages.
Our next stop is the breathtaking Sermilikfjord - a vast ice-choked fjord which drains the colossal Helheim Glacier. Armadas of vast icebergs drift from the Greenland Ice Sheet out into the North Atlantic, creating one of the most spectacular natural sights on Earth. Join your Expedition Team on a Zodiac cruise and marvel at the gigantic icebergs, natural ice sculptures tens of thousands of years in the making.
Today, we explore Skjoldungen, a stunning fjord on Greenland's southeast coast, known to locals as Saqqisikuik. Once visited by Inuit and briefly settled in the 20th century, it is now remote and uninhabited. Surrounded by breathtaking peaks, highlights include Thryms Glacier and the valley of Dronning Marie Dal. Weather permitting, we may land to explore or cruise by the glacier.
In the morning, we sail through spectacular Prins Christian Sund, a 60 km iceberg-filled strait linking East and West Greenland. Surrounded by mountains, glaciers, and valleys, it's one of the world's most spectacular waterways. By afternoon, we reach Aappilattoq, a small, remote village beneath granite cliffs, known for its traditional lifestyle, scenic hiking, and famous local choir
Next, we cruise through Tunulliarfik Fjord to Qassiarsuk, a lush village known for sheep farming and its rich Norse history. Founded in 1924, the modern village sits on the site of Erik the Red's 10th-century farm, Brattahlid. Legend has it that his wife Thjodhild refused to join her
pagan husband's bed until he built her a church - the first in the Americas. In the afternoon, we hike from nearby Itilleq to Igaliku and the ruins of Garðar, the seat of Norse Greenlandic power.
From South Greenland, we sail north along the rugged coast. Nearly all of Greenland's settlements lie on the western coast, facing the Davis Strait. Warm Atlantic currents enrich these waters, attracting whales, seals and many seabirds\emdash so keep an eye out during our day at sea!
Home to 20,000 residents, Nuuk, Greenland's capital, offers culture, history, and stunning natural beauty. Inhabited since 2200 B.C. by Paleo-Inuit and later by Norse settlers, Nuuk is now Greenland's cultural and political center, featuring the Parliament, National Museum(home of the Qilakitsoq mummies), Katuaq cultural center, local art shops, and cozy cafés. Affectionately known as Nuuk York by locals, it stands as a singular blend of the ancient and the contemporary.
On the final full day of our voyage, we arrive in Kangaamiut, a village where traditional hunting, fishing, and weather shape daily life. Guests can hike for panoramic views, and enjoy a warm cultural welcome with local crafts, food, and performance. In the afternoon, we venture into Evighedsfjorden\emdash The Eternity Fjord\emdash by Zodiac, cruising past majestic glaciers and dramatic bird cliffs, a thrilling and unforgettable finale to our Arctic voyage.
As your journey concludes, we sail up the 160 km Kangerlussuaq Fjord and disembark by Zodiac. Though Kangerlussuaq is more known for its Cold War-era military roots and role as a transport hub than cultural heritage, its surrounding wilderness offers striking natural beauty. From there, we will depart from Greenland, boarding our chartered flight to Copenhagen, where your journey will end.
Greenland has an Arctic climate with average temperatures in the North that do not exceed 10° C in the warmest summer months. In the southern part of the country and the innermost parts of the long fjords, the temperature can, however, rise to more than 20° C (68° F) in June, July and August.

Iceland has a cool and temperate climate and, despite its location just south of the Arctic Circle, its northerly latitude is counteracted by the warm waters of the North Atlantic Drift which encircles the island. Temperatures in winter can fluctuate between about 10°C and -10°C and precipitation in the form of rain, sleet or snow is to be expected at any time. Days will be short, with daylight often only guaranteed between about 11 am and 4 pm in December. The best time for seeing the Aurora Borealis is October to March. Summer is generally cool with average temperatures for June and July around 12 - 15 degree centigrade in Reykjavik, although is known to be warmer in other parts of the country. In June and July you can enjoy continuous daylight and see the Midnight Sun, whilst late spring and early autumn offer long twilights.

Whilst landings are included in the cost of your trip as per the outline itinerary, some departures have additional optional excursions which can be pre-booked with the ship operator directly. All expeditioners will have complimentary use of muck boots for the duration of the voyage. You will also have complimentary use of an expedition parka. You will be required to bring you own waterproof trousers - a must for zodiac cruising! Parka Gloves Keeping your hands warm and dry can be a challenge. Thin polypropylene gloves can be worn underneath warm outergloves. This allows you some protection from the cold when removing your gloves to operate your camera etc. We strongly recommend that you bring more than one pair of gloves, in case one gets wet (or lost). Hat/Cap Warm, woollen hat/cap to protect your ears, as well as a scarf, neck gaiter or other face protection, such as a balaclava. Trousers Water-resistant trousers of coated nylon or, even better, Gore-Tex® are essential for your comfort. They can be worn over your regular clothes to keep you warm and dry. We suggest that you purchase trousers a few sizes larger than you normally wear as you will be wearing them over other clothing. Gore-Tex® or similar fabrics are excellent for keeping out wind and water without trapping excess heat. Rain gear and Gore-Tex® products can be found in any outdoor sport clothing store. In addition to your waterproof trousers, warm ski pants are suggested if you have them. Warm trousers such as jeans, corduroys etc are also good. Socks Warm wool socks worn over a thin pair of silk, polypropylene socks should provide enough warmth and insulation for your feet. Bring several pairs of socks, since you will inevitably get your feet wet. Outer Clothing Woollen, knit or cotton sweaters/tops, polar fleece tops (medium weight), several cotton turtlenecks and T-shirts for layering on and off the ship. Underclothing Thermal underwear is highly recommended as it will keep you warm without adding bulk. Most polar travellers prefer a lightweight version.
Complimentary waterproof boots will be supplied on-board. However, if you have extra small or large feet, you are advised to bring your own. Also ensure you take comfortable shoes and trainers for relaxing on board and out on deck.

The lead-in prices on our website are based on triple outward facing, Stateroom cabins. All staterooms have private bathrooms, ample storage, with twin beds. Many of the stateroom categories, have floor to ceiling windows that offer prime observation opportunities around the clock. Additionally, there are private balconies in most of the staterooms, allowing you to watch the world float past and take in the salty air of the open ocean. Your confirmed cabin type will appear on your Booking Confirmation, which will be sent on receipt of your deposit payment.
Meals are served in the large, spacious dining room with an open seating arrangement, perfect for swapping stories with your extended expedition family. A range of courses is offered at each meal time and you can enjoy a variety of house wines, beers and soft drinks which are included with your evening meal. Complimentary coffee, tea and snacks are available throughout the day and any additional drinks can be purchased at the fully-stocked bar.
Can you drink the water? It is generally possible to drink the local tap water, therefore to reduce the need for single-use plastic bottles we recommend you bring a refillable water bottle with you. Your leader will advise you on refill points each day.

Customers who have chosen to book on the ‘Land Only’ arrangements of our tour, please ensure that you have checked your tour specific ‘Joining Instructions’ prior to booking your own travel arrangements. Your joining instructions can be found below in the dates and prices information. You may also be eligible for the Free Explore Transfer.
Customers booked on the ‘Land Only’ arrangements will receive a Free Transfer, provided you arrive and depart on the tour only itinerary start and end dates. The complimentary transfers will be arranged from the Explore designated airport or train station to your trips joining point, and then back from the ending point to the designated airport or train station. Generally the airport or station that Explore have selected will be the one that is closest to the town or city where the trip starts, or the one nearest to the joining point. It will be either an airport or train station but not both. The exception to this rule is customers who are booked on a tour where the joining and ending point is at the designated airport or train station.
Free transfers are not available for Polar customers.
If you are not eligible for the Free Transfer then you will need to make your own way through to the joining and ending point. On a majority of our tours Explore will be able to provide a private transfer at an additional cost. Please ask for a quote at the time of booking. It is a condition of booking with Explore that you have adequate valid travel insurance. It is your responsibility to arrange appropriate travel insurance and ensure you have read and understood the full terms and conditions of your travel insurance policy to ensure that you are covered for all activities you intend to undertake whilst on the tour, including all optional activities. Your Insurance Policy must fully cover you for medical expenses and emergency repatriation to your home country. Please ensure your policy includes medical emergency helicopter evacuation in the event of illness or injury and covers the entire duration of your holiday. If you are trekking at altitude please ensure that there is no upper altitude limit which may limit or exclude cover for your trip. The cost of many of our Polar Voyages will exceed the capped amount covered by standard insurance premiums and you will be required to pay an additional premium to cover the full value of your trip. Please ensure that you are covered for the full amount of your holiday cost, as insufficient cover could invalidate a claim under the policy.
