Classic Cycle Through The Himalayan Kingdom Of Ladakh

Set in the far north of India, Ladakh is a unique region inaccessible during the winter months. For a short period in the summer the passes clear of snow and we can visit the remote monasteries and experience the Buddhist traditions that have shaped the culture. Starting with Leh as our base we cycle to Hemis, Stok and Phyang monasteries before following quiet paths along the Indus River. Few tourists visit this region and exploring by bike allows us to reach some of the smaller villages in the Indus Valley and gain an insight in to how people live in a region that is totally cut off for more than half of the year.

Tour Highlights

  • Amazing Himalaya Scenery - Bike through a mountainous area of outstanding natural beauty
  • Villages and Valleys - Experience the rich culture and rolling landscapes of the Indus Valley
  • High Passes - Cycle over Nangchan La Pass (4700m) and drive over
  • Tanglangla Pass (5359m) - the second highest road in the world
  • Leh - Explore the ancient capital of Ladakh
  • Delhi - India’s vibrant and historic capital

Cycling Information
On this tour we cycle 338 km over nine days (an average of 38 km per day). We follow some major roads whilst cycling around Leh and then smaller paths between villages. There are some steep ascents and descents and the altitude will make the cycling feel tougher although time is built in for acclimatisation. A support vehicle accompanies the rides throughout the tour. We have graded the route as tough.
