What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

The mosaics in the royal chapel at Palermo were my absolute highlight: the total effect was overwhelming and, having seen Hagia Sophia and the grand mosque at Damascus, it was very interesting to make comparisons.

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

Amongst the many highlights for me were the amazingly well-preserved mosaics at the Villa Romana at Casale in Piazza Armerina, the Palatine Chapel in Palermo, the many Greek/Roman theatres and temples, Erice the ancient hill town and the stunning countryside. Mount Etna was unique! The food and wine were delicious and the climate was ideal for late September/early October. Blue sky, sunny and 25 to 30 degrees C. Our group was made up of 20 people of all ages and various nationalities = an ideal mix.

The highlights of the tour were going up Mount Etna, visiting Moxia and the drive between Palermo and Taormina.  Moxia in particular was unusual but atmospheric amongst all the archaeological sites we visited.  The good bit about the holiday was that we saw and did lots but the bad bit was that there was just a little too much - very difficult when there's so much to see!
