- This trip was exceptionally good at all levels – the leader was excellent, extremely knowledgeable and helpful. So were the support people, the local guides, and the people responsible for the lodges that we stayed in were also very welcoming andl helpful. Although some of the camps were very simple, I was particularly impressed with the way the boat men after having spent much of the day portaging the canoe over rapids pitched in with preparing the meals and putting up the our hammocks (although I understand that was not actually part of their job). Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The food produced was also very good – lots of good coffee and fresh fruit!
I also liked the sequence of experiences … the tidal Orinoco delta; the inland wonderful scenery and river adventure all leading up to the final and mind-blowing experience of Los Llanos which must be one of the top if not THE top wildlife safari experience in the world. The variety of bird and general wild creature experience was mindblowing: Caymans, anacondas, copabari, birds by the million, wild pigs and deer, otters, giant anteaters, freshwater dolphins to name just a few. Such an experience was world class and beats any that I have experienced in Africa, Australasia – and indeed elsewhere in the Americas – including I should say … the Galapagos (which I visited one of Explore’s cruises in 2015). Explore should do more to publicise the “Angel Falls and Orinoco” as a stunning and wold-beating wild-life and scenic experience.
