Back to basics: 8 Camping experiences around the world

There's nothing like a camping experience to embrace the great outdoors. From the treetops of an adventure park in Sicily to a wildlife haven in the heart of Madagascar, here are our top 8 camping experiences around the world.

 

Sicily

Surrounded by the dense wooded landscapes of Petralia Sottana, this camping experience sees you sleeping amongst the trees - literally! Madonie Adventure Park is home to five tree tents suspended six metres off the ground, with room for five people in each. On a Family Sicily Adventure, after a thrilling day trying your hand at zip lines, archery and assault courses, you’ll rest up accompanied by the serene sounds of Sicilian nature. For those who would like to sleep closer to the forest floor, there are a further five tents on platforms.
Circular tents are suspended between tall trees, elevated above the ground, connected by wooden walkways in a dense forest setting with sunlight filtering through the branches.

Canada

Getting back to basics, there’s nothing like wild camping in the rugged heart of Wells Gray Provincial Park. This is the perfect opportunity to get to grips with bushcraft skills, such as preparing a campfire and putting together a home cooked meal in the wilderness. On a Canadian Adventure you’ll canoe picturesque waterways, taking in the dense greenery and keeping an eye out for elusive wildlife, before arriving at a wild camp (your homebase for two nights). Madagascar

Embark on a trek through the Madagascar wilderness and you’ll experience unforgettable camping in the heart of a Madagascan rainforest. Ranomafana National Park is home to the unique and endangered golden bamboo lemur, and you may be lucky enough to spot them as we set up camp here. Later, in Andringitra National Park, a wild camp will be set up in a forest clearing with fresh water available from a nearby stream. After a delicious meal with the group, you’ll set off on a nocturnal nature walk to spot local wildlife after dark.

Sudan

Whether you opt to stretch out under the stars or sleep in a comfortable two-man dome tent, camping in Sudan will immerse you in peace and quiet, with a fantastic night sky to keep you company. With so much to see along the Ganges River, a wild camping experience in India is the perfect way to take a break. Throughout your journey from Delhi to Kathmandu, after floating past small villages, lush wheat fields and intricate temples, you’ll stop overnight at Mirzapur Camp, situated on a scenic sandbank in the middle of the Ganges. While the location can vary depending on local conditions, wherever you are you’ll enjoy a relaxing dinner cooked over a campfire, as well as a beautiful display of stars at night.

Chile

Trekking Fitz Roy and Torres del Paine is an undoubtedly challenging experience, but will reward you with spectacular mountainscape and glacier views. On a Trek Patagonia trip, as you make the journey of the ‘W’ circuit, you’ll camp at the refuges along the way, surrounded by the jagged peaks of Patagonia.
