Wondering where is best to go in March? Expand your horizons with an unforgettable adventure in March. Cycle in Cambodia, explore fishing villages in the Algarve or walk the jacaranda-filled streets of Mexico City.

Explore on foot

Amalfi Coast Walking - Seafront Hotel Sole

Following ancient footpaths that wind through terraced lemon groves and traditional villages, a walking tour of the Amalfi Coast in early spring is truly a treat for the senses. The temperature throughout March is pleasantly warm, making this an idyllic time for trekking, as well as avoiding the crowds from the summer. Walking along the Amalfi Coast in this season allows one to savour the cool breeze, relish the quieter beaches, and indulge in the flavours of freshly harvested seasonal produce.

Nepal

Nepal in the spring is truly spectacular: the country is blanketed in swathes of rhododendron forests which burst into flower against the amazing mountain backdrop -  great for photography. It’s a fantastic time of year to trek to the Annapurna Sanctuary, one of the country’s most iconic trekking routes. You’ll hike around this vast natural amphitheatre to Annapurna Base Camp, staying at cosy mountain lodges known locally as teahouses, plus visiting the cities of Pokhara and Kathmandu.

While Walking in Cuba you’ll explore the lush vegetation of western Cuba, as well as the historic ‘Old Havana’, home to Capitol, Parque Central, and the main squares. Throughout the trip you’ll be treated to the warm hospitality of locals, and learn about their traditional techniques for growing tobacco on a walk through the Valle de Vinales.

Vietnam

Head for South East Asia in March and you’ll catch the tail end of the dry season – it’s starting to heat up but you won't get the steamy temperatures of peak summer, so it's ideal for cycling holidays in Vietnam and Cambodia. Our best-selling trip takes in paddy fields, jungles, the Angkor temples and the Mekong River in 13 days; exploring by bike on quiet backroads gives you the chance to fully immerse yourself and get closer to the local people.

The world in bloom

Japan

Japan’s spring cherry blossom season is a huge draw for the spring months, which is best seen from late March until mid-April. This short window is a busy time to travel, but you may also catch it slightly earlier, though not in its full glory on our Simply Japan holiday, which takes in Tokyo, Kyoto and Kanazawa. Travelling mid-March means you can participate in White Day: on 14th March men give gifts to their partners, as opposed to Valentine’s Day the previous month, when women give gifts to the men.

Maldives

Experience a different kind of bloom beneath the surface of the ocean on a Maldives Dhoni Cruise. Throughout the voyage you’ll be stopping at stunning reefs, perfect for snorkelling thanks to the crystal clear waters. Meanwhile on land, you’ll visit the uninhabited islands of Kudiboli and Kuda Anbaraa, as well as Dhiggaru Island where locals will perform traditional folk music.

Mexico

To see Mexico at its most lush and green, visit in March. Spring heralds the start of noticeably warmer temperatures as it comes to the end of the dry season – you can expect temperatures in the mid- to late-twenties and an abundance of plant life. Head to the cactus state on our Mexico and Guatemala holiday to see Mexico City’s blooming jacarandas, the verdant colours of the jungle and the colourful markets of Oaxaca.

Spain

While cherry blossoms may get all the attention, Spain’s orange blossoms are equally stunning when seen in their vast numbers. Andalucía is one of the best places to see it, and in early March the fields and cities are full of the smell and sight of beautiful blooms. Compare the contrast from the white villages of the Sierra de Arcena to the sizzling character of Seville with its UNESCO-listed Moorish palaces, tapas restaurants and plazas filled with flowers on our Highlights of Andalucía holiday.

Choose our South Africa and Swaziland trip and not only will you get a chance to learn about the Big Five in the Kruger National Park, you’ll also get to discover Africa’s last monarchy in the kingdom of Swaziland, where the Swazi tribe take great pride in keeping their culture and traditions.

India

One of the world’s most colourful festivals, Holi is an iconic festival that happens all around India every March - whether you’re a first-time visitor or are wanting to return to the country to experience the festival, you’ll not be short of places to participate in the celebrations. Experience the colourful events from Agra on our Golden Triangle trip: where better than the city that houses the country’s most famous monument, the Taj Mahal? The weather may be heating up in April but temperatures are still comfortable.
