What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

The beauty of this country.  Plitvice NP is just as gorgeous as the green-blue lake photographs in the brochure imply, and more so, with the constantly flowing waterfalls running over the travertine barriers.  Trogir and Split and beautiful Italian-influenced towns with courtyards and alleyways, and little street cafes perfect for an afternoon drink.

How was your Explore Tour Leader?

Bubbly, enthusiastic, and a great lover of ice cream!  The tour leader influences the mood of the group so much, and Jackie was fantastic.  She set the pace of the walks well for the group, and always had an eye for anyone struggling.  Possibly part-goat, she loved any challenges the path threw at her, and liftred the mood of the group so we felt like we could achieve anything!

What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?

This tour is very half-and-half.  The first half of the tour is walking, with a very easy level walk on the first day (Plitvice), a short and easy walk on the first day near Paklenica, an easy to moderate half day walk in the mountains on the second day in Paklenica, with an optional moderate half-day walk to follow - or free time to wander the park by yourself.  The second half of the trip is much less active, with visits to the beautiful towns of Trogir and Split, and orientation tours of both.  A lovely way to wind down.

Do you have anything else to add?

Ankle support is essential for the two walks in Paklenica.  This is a trip for people who like being outside and like the occasional walk in the mountains, but aren't hardcore ramblers (unless they're happy to be hardcore ramblers kicking back and taking some time out!).  Croatia offers the cheapest mixed grills I've ever seen, but don't expect high quality food.  Except for the homemade icecream, which is delicious!

Weather can be unpredictable in Plitvice so take adequate waterproof gear.

This was my first tour with Explore and my first time as a customer on tour rather than the group leader. I must say I had a fabulous time going through the different shades of Croatian history and landscape. The vast majority of people here thrive on tourism and you can feel a sense of being welcomed at every stage. The breathtaking views from the cliffs in Paklenica and the umpteen number of crystal blue coloured waterfalls in Plitvice makes this trip a real exciting adventure.

Would definitely recommend this trip. Paklencia National Park was great for walking. The tour leader worked hard to meet everyone's needs and even put on an extra walk on his free day! Trogir and Split were fascinating. In both places the variety of architecture was amazing. It was like walking through a history book! (CO- 7th August 2010)
