Drive to Okonjima
Heading north to Okonjima you can stop en route in Okahandja and visit Namibia’s largest wood carving market, operated on a local co-operative basis it is one of the best places to shop for truly Namibian souvenirs. Okonjima is the home of the Africat Foundation, a conservation caring for big cats, particularly cheetah and this afternoon you will have a tour to see some of the local inhabitants.

Okonjima Campsite
Okonjima campsite is located in the Omboroko mountains. Shared facilities include open air toilets and showers, washing-up area and a pool. The campsite provides firewood and a powerpoint for charging batteries. There is also a great viewpoint for an afternoon sundowner.

Drive to Etosha National Park
Departing Okonjima you drive further north and arrive at East Etosha region of the park around lunch time, with time to set up camp and relax before having your first game drive. The terrain ranges from dense bush to large open plains where animals roam freely and you may see elephant, rhino and possibly lion.

Namutoni Restcamp
Namutoni Restcamp is located on the eastern side of the Etosha park close to Von Lindequist Gate. The camp is centred around an old German Fort overlooking the floodlit waterhole, and is the hub of the camp. The restcamp offers two restaurants, an African fusion and a steakhouse, a lounge, bar, craft boutique, jewellers, bookstore and pool. Walk around the rim of the fort to enjoy fabulous views of the surrounding scenery and spectacular sunsets. Camping facilites are also available and a petrol station at the entrance for all to access.

Etosha National Park
Depart your camp this morning and game drive your way through Etosha to Halali camp, situated in the middle of the park. After setting up camp you can take a late afternoon game drive to Okaukuejo, famous for its waterhole where you might spot black rhino, elephant, lion and antelope.

Grootberg
Leaving Etosha National Park you have a short drive to Kamanjab, where you visit a local Himba community. These tribes-people have migrated here from the northern Kaokoland region, lifestyle and customs still intact. You will learn about marriage customs, traditional food and the mysteries of the ‘Holy Fire’ religion. From here it is a short drive on to your campsite.

The Hoada Community Campsite is located en route from Kamanjab to Palmwag, situated among granite hills and mopane trees. It is an eco-friendly site offering showers with water heated from the braai. Staff will assist in putting up your tents and starting a fire.

Twyfelfontein
Today you head into one of the most beautiful desert regions in Namibia. Driving west via the Grootberg Pass you take a detour to visit the ancient bushman rock engravings at Twyfelfontein where you will have a guided tour before setting up camp for the night.

Madisa campsite is located between the Ugab and Huab Rivers and the camping areas have great views over the riverbed. Amenities are built on stilts and hidden in the treetops, while the barbeque facilities heat the water.

Drive to Swakopmund
Your journey continues west deeper into the desert, passed Namibia’s highest mountain, The Brandberg, through old mining towns and across gravel plains to the Skeleton Coast. Driving along the coast you visit the seal colony at Cape Cross before continuing to Swakopmund.

Drive to Solitaire, via Walvis Bay
Around 40km south of Swakopmund you find Walvis Bay. The shallows of the bay are home to a diverse collection of birds, the most spectacular being flamingos and pelicans that feed here seasonally, May to November usually. Driving across seemingly endless gravel plains, over mountain passes, dune fields and grassy savannahs, you reach the red sand dunes, just a short distance from Solitaire, your stop for the night.

Sossusvlei
A pre-dawn start is essential this morning if you want to catch the soft light of the sunrise on the desert. After passing through Sesriem, the gateway to the dunes and driving into the heart of the dune field, you reach Sossusvlei, by walking the last five km through the dunes. Spend the morning in and around Sossusvlei, this afternoon take a short excursion to the Sesriem Canyon.
