What Was The Highlight Or Most Memorable Moment Of Your Tour
Very difficult to say as there was such a great variety of experiences spread across 5 countries: culture, scenery, history, wildlife and beaches.
How Was Your Explore Tour Leader
Byron was a very friendly and caring person. He had great knowledge of all the 5 countries we visited, which he imparted to us throughout each day. He had a wonderful sense of humour and always had a smile on his face. If we didn't have any plans for meals, then he would always give us some good suggestions. We were always invited to join him at the restaurant of his choice. If we had any questions or problems then he would always do his best to resolve them. All in all a brilliant leader. Thank you Byron
What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour
Don't take too much clothing - take items that can be easily washed and dried. Be prepared for some early starts and long journeys in a bus. Although there were ample toilet and food stops provided. It would be helpful to learn a little Spanish.
Do You Have Anything Else To Add
Some of the buses were cramped for 16 people plus their luggage, which couldn't always be put on the roof of the bus.
What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?
Omotepe Island - beautiful setting in Lake Nicaragua. Fascinating Mayan Ruins at Copan. Antigua, the old capital of Guatemala is a quaint town. The weather (and the sea) was lovely and warm so February / March is a good time to travel. But we didn't see that very much bird or wild life as the group was too large and we didn't go at the right time of day.
How was your Explore Tour Leader?
Explore describe their Leaders as hand picked and expertly trained - so I don't know where they found our leader as he was definitely not typical of Explore ! He handled the border crossings, ferries, airports, hotels etc: efficiently but gave very little in depth information apart from in his own country, Nicaragua. He was a nice enough chap but totally lacked the passion and enthusiasm I've come to expect from 18 previous tours with Explore.
What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?
Do your pre-trip research carefully - check out the many, expensive optional extras so you know what you're letting yourself in for ! Hotels were good, transport was cramped at times. Be prepared for long days of travel though with several days of relaxation in Bocas & Roatan Islands, Ometepe and Antigua. Go for the small, local eateries for dinner rather than the "recommended" steak houses.
Do you have anything else to add?
I enjoyed the trip as we were a very nice group - but this was definitely not a "typical" Explore holiday. Explore doesn't seem to attract the wide variety of age groups as it has done in the past. I've had some absolutely fabulous trips with Explore, so perhaps I won't give up - yet.
We’re not sure whether our general age range has changed dramatically – the average age has probably risen a little, as we have so many repeat customers who are getting older with us.
