Malaysia and Thailand is 'still quite possible' on a budget

Even though currency is stronger South East Asia is still good value

People wanting to travel on solo holidays through South East Asia will find it is "still quite possible" to do so on a budget, Lonely Planet has said.

According to the Vacation Money Report from Post Office Travel Money, the Thai baht and Malaysian ringgit have strengthened against the pound by 11.4 and 12.8 per cent respectively.

Tom Hall, travel editor at Lonely Planet, said although Malaysia and Thailand were not as cheap as they have been, they were still happy hunting grounds for people on a budget.

"Those destinations will continue to attract a lot of visitors because of good value air links, excellent food and drink, a warm friendly welcome and they are pretty safe places to go to," he said.

Mr Hall added that one developing trend they have seen is people taking longer flights for shorter trips: "They're not really being put off by a nine or ten hour flight if they are going to be somewhere beautiful and sunny at the end of it."
