The promotional body, which aims to encourage travel to the destination, also noted that Iceland is ideal for "action-lovers" in search of a challenge on an adventure holiday.

Iceland is also great for those looking for culture on a solo holiday, with a vast choice of classical music and theatres spread across the country.

The geological make up of the country which contributes to the restless nature in the country's landscapes.

It is telling that some of the most impressive attractions in Iceland are those of the natural world, such as The Blue Lagoon thermal baths and the famous geyser.
