Britons can trek up the Corcovado Mountain to see the famous Christ the Redeemer statue

UK consumers planning their itinerary for an adventure holiday in Brazil should stop off in Rio de Janeiro as the city offers something for everyone, according to an expert.

Kevin Raub, one of the authors who work on the Lonely Planet's Brazil guide, claimed that, no matter what age travelers to the Brazilian capital may be, everyone will be able to find something of interest in the historic region.

He said: "The city most stereotypically draws beach hounds, musicphiles, outdoor enthusiasts and partygoers, the latter most notably for Rio's world-renowned Carnival celebrations every spring.

"In general, Rio has something for everyone. Very few tourists ever encounter anything but joy from the Cidade Maravilhosa."

Rio is home to one of the Seven New Wonders of the World in 2007, The Christ the Redeemer statue, and keen hikers could trek up the Corcovado Mountain to get a closer look of the famous sculpture.

The Maracana Stadium, one of the world's largest football stadiums, is a must for fans of the beautiful game, while sun worshippers will enjoy relaxing on the famous Copacabana, Ipanama and Leblon beaches.
