Accra is great for its 'fun and enjoyable' cuisine

Ghana's capital has great local dishes and international fare

Those on solo holidays who enjoy trying local culinary dishes will find traditional food in Accra "fun and enjoyable", according to a destination marketing company.

Alan Brown, sales and marketing director at dmAFRICA, recommended eating the wonderful food of the Ghanaian capital.

Some dishes which he said were must-tries for those on solo holidays included Fufu, which is "the most widely served traditional dish [and] comprises balls of yam or cassava or plantain served with soup and a side dish of goat or fish".

He added that another popular dish, Kyegbuma, is "based on crab meat - crabs and lobsters are plentiful and relatively inexpensive - served with potato balls, meat and cassava".

Travel advice company Wanderlust recently revealed that Ghana was ranked 6th in the Top Emerging Destination category for their Travel Awards 2011.

Mr Brown also suggested that for those who prefer international dishes, Accra's suburb of Osu has its fair share of international restaurants.
