Neglecting travel insurance is a 'false economy'

Travel organisation warn that holiday-makers will pay in the long run

Travellers planning to take solo holidays who are contemplating not buying travel insurance will suffer in the long run, according to ABTA: The Travel Association.

Sean Tipton, spokesperson for the travel organisation, noted "saving that small amount of money represents a false economy".

"Our general advice is that wherever you are going, especially if you are someone who is prone to taking last minute decisions on breaks, buy an annual policy," he said.

"[Buying it is] the easiest thing to do and also insurance is the cheapest it has ever been, it's not expensive anymore."

Figures from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office have shown that a third of people did not take out travel insurance the last time they stayed with family and friends overseas.

Travel insurance is important for all kinds of overseas journeys - particularly for people planning adventure holidays as the increased activity sometimes comes with an increased risk.
