The travel experts at Wanderlust Magazine constantly keep their eyes open for the most interesting and exciting new trips available. We were delighted to learn that, against very stiff competition, our Cycling the Baltic States tour was nominated as number six in the list of 50 best new trips for 2013.

Wanderlust-50-best-trips

Travelling through Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, this 9-day tour will see you pedalling through national parks, medieval towns and along parts of the Baltic Sea coastline. You’ll visit three capital cities, cycle along 32km of sandy beach and have plenty of time out of the saddle for sightseeing.

One of the more unusal places of interest is the Palanga Amber Museum which houses over 4,500 amber specimens. You’ll also visit Trakai Historical National Park – Europe’s only historical national park. Its fairytale medieval castle sits on an island in Lake Galve and is one of the area’s ‘must-see’ sites. The UNESCO listed Curonian Spit National Park is an outstanding example of a sand dune landscape which has everything from sparse vegetation to 100 year old trees; cycling on forest trails you’ll see the best bits of the park.

This cycling trip is graded as ‘easy’; cycling mostly on flat, easy terrain up to 4 hours each day. If you are thinking of trying a cycling holiday for the first time and don’t want to take on too much of a physical challenge, or you simply prefer cycling at a relatively relaxed pace, Cycling the Baltic States is the perfect trip. We agree with Wanderlust; it definitely deserves its place in their top 50!
